If you ever find yourself living in an assisted living community, you would have to make sure that your behavior and etiquette are in line with what is considered to be civil and decent. After all, an assisted living community is referred to as a community for a reason!
By making the effort to be kind and considerate towards the other members of the community, you allow for everyone to have a better collective experience. This will go a long way in helping you foster and maintain good and amicable relationships with your fellow members of the community.
We at The Park Oak Grove would like to provide you with some very useful tips on how you can make sure that your relationships with others in the community will be just fine and dandy! Here is what you will need to bear in mind:
Be Self-Aware and Mind Your Noise Levels
When you share a living space with other people, it is important that you make the effort to be cognizant of the amount of noise that you could make and to bring it to a considerate minimum, whenever it is possible. This is especially the case during the night when everybody else is asleep. Be considerate and be willing to be understanding and reasonable with other members of the community in the event that they ask you to bring down your noise levels.
Be Amiable and Friendly
You will be able to have a much more pleasant experience living with other individuals with whom you have amicable relationships. This camaraderie with others may be fostered by simply putting on a genuine smile and being friendly and warm.
Initiate interactions and conversations with the other members of the community. You never know; some of these individuals may turn into some of your closest friends. Others probably will not, but there is still no harm in creating and maintaining amicable relationships with them.
And do not forget about the staff! Another very important thing to understand is that while you are living in a senior living community, it will greatly benefit you to make the effort to be warm, kind, and amiable to the members of staff. They will play a huge part in the quality of your experience in the community.
Respect the Privacy of Other Residents
If you have a more introverted nature and if you regularly require your peace and quiet, this should already be second nature to you. If you lean towards the more extroverted end of the spectrum, then this could be something that you will need to consciously remind yourself of. Do bear in mind that even though you may want some company, there will be others who would prefer to have their own space and privacy.
Listen to Others with an Open Mind and Heart
You should communicate clearly with others when something is irking you, but you should also listen attentively and sincerely when someone else tells you that something is irking them, or if they just need a listening ear.
